A warning to all choosy women

These women from a Russian village sang the song of the choosy bride at the fair.



It is a Russian folk song that goes like this:

My mother wanted me to marry this first guy
But that first one was known to be unfaithful
Don't give me away to him, mother!
But that first one was known to be unfaithful
Don't give me away to him, mother!

My mother wanted me to marry that other guy
But that other one was secretly seeing my girlfriend
Don't give me away to him, mother!
But that second one, went to see my girlfriend
Don't give me away to him, mother

Problems with the other guys were as follows:

the third was "never there like the wind in the field"
the fourth was not fun and was "neither dead nor alive"
the sixth was immature and "didn't act like a grown-up"
and finally the seventh was "awesome and fun but he wouldn't marry me".
