So Denmark is planning to introduce a ban on Islamic full-face coverings in public places. The government said it planned to fine people who wore items including the burqa and the niqab. I think France was the first country in Europe to introduce such a ban and is still the only one.
“It is incompatible with the values of the Danish society or the respect for the community to keep the face hidden when meeting each other in the public space,” Justice Minister Justice Soren Pape Poulsen said.
“With a ban, we draw a line in the sand and establish that here in Denmark we show each other trust and respect by meeting each other face to face,” he said.
I haven't really thought about it and as much as I cannot relate to religious stuff, especially when it requires one to walk around inside a camping tent or wrapped in a parachute, I was never bothered by burqas and niqabs and never cared that some people chose to wear them. Clearly they cannot be worn in certain situations like airport security or if one wants to be a police woman for example but do they need to be banned in all public places at all times?
